"Dude, suckin' at something is the first step to being sorta good at something."

- Jake the dog, Adventure Time

Ever wanted to try cocktail and mixed drink recipes without the fear they won’t turn out like the photo? Here’s your chance. My name is Aleigha and I am a total beginner at all things mixed drinks. As a college student, I’m personally getting tired of “jungle juice” at college parties, and with social gatherings being limited due to Covid-19, I want more for my taste buds than vodka soda. My intent behind this blog is to discover new drinks and fun ways of making them, without the pressure to be talented. I’m a regular person and pretty clumsy, so I'm bound to make a mess or two. Follow this blog if you wanna learn alongside me about mixed drinks, recipes, necessary tools and how to use them.

Most of this blog will be video based content with short descriptions of each post. But for this first entry I'm gonna share a recipe and instructions for a classic martini.

The Classic Martini

This might be the simplest recipe I add to this blog but I thought it was the best place to start. The martini is a straight forward drink with no tricky components. This drink is about as clear as it gets (*ba dum tss*) and that's why it's the perfect way to introduce this blog.

Ingredients:

  • 3.5 oz of vodka or gin

  • .5 oz of dry vermouth

  • a lemon twist or olive for garnish

Tools:

  • a shaker

  • ice

  • a martini glass (or cup of choice)

Now here comes the hard part. Pour the vodka and the vermouth in a shaker with ice and shake well. Pour the mixture into your glass and garnish with a lemon twist or olive as preferred. Congrats! You just made a martini, well done!

Twisted Recipes

For those who prefer something less potent, there's a ton of other options. Three that I find to be pretty good are the Espresso Martini, the Hurricane Martini, and the Chocolate Martini.

The Espresso Martini is great for when you need a caffeine pick-me-up for a night to relax and have fun. Mixed with espresso and coffee liqueur, this martini variation is for those who want a refreshing café taste with a twist.

If you're looking for a fresh citrus taste, the Hurricane Martini is the perfect alternative. Made with rum and orange juice rather than vodka, this martini variation offers a cool, summery vibe.

And last but certainly not least, the Chocolate Martini. For my chocoholic audience, this is a must have recipe. Not only is it made with chocolate liqueur, but it also includes chocolate drizzle inside the serving glass. This martini variation is an amazing sweet treat after a long bitter day.

Next week will be a video blog to wrap up those lingering summer vibes. Frozen drinks are a delicious way to cool down on a hot day. Join me again next week to learn how to make a Frozen Mudslide and a Frozen Piña Colada.
